What is Navchandi Puja?

Navchandi Puja is a sacred Vedic ritual performed in honor of Goddess Chandi — the fierce and powerful form of Goddess Durga. The word "Nav" means nine, and this puja involves nine specific recitations of the Chandi Path (Durga Saptashati) along with elaborate havan and offerings.

This puja is performed to seek the Goddess's divine protection, remove negative energies, overcome enemies, and bring prosperity and success into one's life. It is especially recommended during Navratri, but can be performed at any auspicious time.

At Prey Pandit, our experienced pandits perform the complete Navchandi Puja with all nine recitations, havan, and proper Vedic rituals as per tradition.

How is Navchandi Puja Performed?

Our pandits follow the complete Navchandi Puja Vidhi as prescribed in the Markandeya Purana:

1
Sankalp & Purification The puja begins with Sankalp — a formal vow stating the purpose. The pandit and devotees purify themselves and the puja space with Gangajal.
2
Kalash Sthapana A sacred Kalash is established representing Goddess Chandi. It is decorated with mango leaves, coconut, and red cloth.
3
Ganesh Puja Lord Ganesha is invoked first to remove all obstacles and ensure the puja proceeds without interruption.
4
Navchandi Path (9 Recitations) The Durga Saptashati (700 verses) is recited nine times in full. Each recitation is accompanied by specific offerings to the Goddess.
5
Havan (Sacred Fire Ritual) A sacred havan is performed with ghee, sesame, barley, and other offerings while chanting Chandi mantras into the fire.
6
Kumari Puja Young girls (Kumaris) are worshipped as forms of the Goddess and offered food, clothing, and gifts as a mark of reverence.
7
